Elvis Presley wasn’t just celebrated for his legendary music career and unmistakable voice that captivated millions worldwide. He also had a flair for both food and fashion (those iconic blue suede shoes, anyone?).
What many might not realize, however, is that the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll also had an eye for interior design. This talent shines through in his iconic, privately-owned jet, which stands as a testament to his unique taste and style.
In 1962, Elvis Presley acquired his own aircraft, ensuring it was custom-designed to reflect his personal style.
Step inside, and you’re greeted by elegant wooden paneling, plush red velvet chairs, and luxurious carpeting—each detail a testament to the King’s refined taste.
Elvis owned this Lockheed JetStar for over 35 years, though it was left abandoned after his passing in 1977. It was one of several private planes in his collection, which also included the iconic Convair 880, famously named “Lisa Marie” with the call sign Hound Dog 1, and a second JetStar, Hound Dog 2. Together, these planes showcased his love for aviation and his extravagant lifestyle.
This particular Lockheed JetStar had been sitting idle on a roadside in Roswell, New Mexico, for decades. Recently, however, it found a new home when an Elvis fan—or perhaps a collector—purchased it for $260,000 via a telephone bid at a Florida auction.
When this plane first soared into the skies, Elvis shared it with his father, Vernon Presley.
After Elvis’ passing, the jet remained parked in a secluded spot in New Mexico for over three decades. While the once-vibrant red exterior has faded over time, the plane is remarkably well-preserved for its age.
Step inside, and it’s like stepping into a time capsule of the King’s iconic style. The interior boasts luxurious wooden paneling on the walls and plush red velvet upholstery on the chairs. It’s easy to imagine Elvis enjoying a long, leisurely flight in such an opulent setting—just the kind of flair you’d expect from the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
A “high-tech” television, by the standards of its time, is naturally part of the setup. The aircraft’s layout is primarily dominated by one spacious main room, offering ample space for guests and featuring plush, inviting seats.
Toward the rear of the plane lies a compact kitchen, complete with vintage appliances. Take a closer look at the microwave—it’s doubtful it still functions after all these years. Still, it’s easy to picture Elvis rising from his velvet armchair, making his way to the kitchen to whip up his signature sandwich—a legendary concoction of peanut butter, mayonnaise, crispy bacon, and banana—and warming it in that microwave. Now that’s rock ’n’ roll history!
Check out the bathroom! Naturally, there’s more velvet, along with a stylish and luxurious sink. Compared to the cramped spaces of most charter flights, this is pure indulgence.
Impressive, isn’t it? It’s a real treat to get this glimpse into Elvis’ ultimate travel setup.
The iconic jet recently sold at auction for $260,000. It was featured in the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car Auction in Florida on January 8.
The winning bidder, who placed their offers over the phone, remains anonymous.
